Blue Ribbon Stables is proud to be the OFFICIAL STABLE of the
Broward County Interscholastic Riding Teams.
Teams are forming NOW for the 2008-2009 season! We have a
middle school and high school team and need riders of ALL
levels - from complete beginners through advanced! Just like
college teams we MUST have riders in EVERY division, from
walk/trot through 3'.
To be eligible to join you must be a student in good standing in
ANY public or private school in Broward County, or be enrolled
in Home School. You must be able to ride at least once a week
and be able to assist with fundraisers.
Teams will be able to compete together and individually at
shows throughout the State of Florida and can earn a spot at the
Regional or even National competitions!

Interscholastic Equestrian Association is a great program for kids who may want to consider riding in
college. In the past teams in colleges have always been considered "clubs" and have been sanctioned by
the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA). Since the team was a "club" there was usually
limited funds available from the school and recruiting and scholarships were VERY rare. However, the
government recently passed a law stating that colleges must have an equal number of men's and
women's sports. Colleges around the country are adding "Equestrian Teams" as a NCAA sanctioned
SPORT for women! What does this mean? It means colleges now have funds specifically set aside for
their riding teams and can actually go out and RECRUIT riders for their teams by offering
SCHOLARSHIPS! Interscholastic Teams give colleges a place to go to find riders to recruit - so being a
member of an IEA team put you right in front of the recruiters for colleges throughout the country!

Riding in college is very unique. In an effort to make it
more affordable riders are not required to have their
own horses. When riding at the home stable you will
ride school horses. You "can" own your own horse and
ride it for your lessons, but you are not required. In
order to keep everything fair all horses are picked at
random before your class at a show. When it is your
time for you class you will mount your horse and begin
your class. You are permitted to adjust your stirrups,
but you may not ride the horse before your class. This
means you will be riding a strange horse for EACH
class at EACH show you attend!
IEA teams are run very similar - to help you prepare for college and to help college's be able to see your ability in their
program. Again, you will take regular lessons at your "home stable" on your own horse (or pony) or a school horse. At shows
you will draw horses for each class. In IEA you are permitted a SHORT warm-up period to become accustomed to the horse.
Also, IEA teams are permitted to do fundraising and we do offer riding scholarships to assist with the costs of riding - all of
this will help making riding more affordable.
IEA team members are permitted to show at non-IEA shows at any time.
